Azerbaijan national women’s field hockey team won a 2-0 victory over Ukraine in the international tournament started March 24 at the Republican field hockey complex in Baku.

Having failed to open score in the first half, Azerbaijan took the lead 20 minutes after the break when Zarifa Zeynalova celebrated the first goal. Forty-four minutes later, Liyana Nuriyeva doubled the score to claim Azerbaijan’s victory.

March 25-26 games have Italy playing Ukraine and Azerbaijan against Italy respectively.

The tournament is a test for Azerbaijan before the qualifying round of the world championship to be held in Rome from April 25 to March 5.

The Azerbaijanis are drawn in Group B with New Zealand, the USA, Italy, Ireland and Korea.

The tournament will last till March 29.
