AZERBAIJAN MINISTER OF YOUTH AND SPORTS VISITS PARIS
Azerbaijan Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov attended the international conference organized by UNESCO and World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in Paris, February 5-6, which brought together the representatives from 90 countries.
The issues of fighting doping, financial problems were in the focus of the conference. The participants elected the governing bodies of the conference and decided to hold the conference once a two year.
The conference participants told of UNESCO International Convention Against Doping in Sport ratified by 47 countries. Azerbaijan will soon join the Convention, the relevant documents have been already prepared and submitted to Milli Majlis, the Minister said AZERTAC reporter.
Within the framework of the conference, Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov met with the UNESCO Director General for foreign relations Ahmed Said. Mr. Rahimov has also met with the Director of Russian Federal Agency for Physical Training and Sports V. Fetisov, Ukrainian Minister of Sports V. Korzhev. The sides shared views on development of the relations in sports, conducting of the different competitions etc.
Mr. Rahimov discussed the prospects of bilateral cooperation with the Minister of Youth and Sports of France François Lemur. Azerbaijan Minister briefly informed on the upcoming events of 2007.
On February 6, UNESCO Director General Koïchiro Matsuura received Azad Rahimov. Minister conveyed greetings of President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO Mehriban Aliyeva.
Mr. Rahimov highlighted that President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev issued an executive order on announcement 2007 - “The Year of Youth” and conducting of the international events in Azerbaijan.
