Belarusian border guards have seized about 80 weapons and 1,200 units of ammunition on the border with Ukraine since the start of 2018, Chairman of Belarus' State Border Committee Anatoly Lappo told the media on 16 October, BelTA has learned.
The chairman of the State Border Committee also cited the data from the situation reports provided by the Ukrainian border guards. This year they have detained about 100 weapons, some 12,000 units of ammunition and several dozen grenades on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border. “The frontier guards of the two countries will do everything possible to stop these flows. We work in close cooperation,” said Anatoly Lappo.
In his words, both Belarus and Ukraine have been working to reinforce their state borders. “This is a natural process. We must ensure the security of our borders,” said Anatoly Lappo.
Speaking about the demarcation of the Belarusian-Ukrainian border, Anatoly Lappo said that the two countries are going to demarcate 1,084km. More than 700km have been marked on the terrain. More than 300km have been cleared. It is necessary to establish 3,200 posts. Belarus has placed about 900 posts so far. “The demarcation process is on schedule. We have no disagreements,” Anatoly Lappo said.
