Algerian delegation visits Azerbaijan`s parliament

Baku, June 21, AZERTAC

An Algerian delegation has today visited Milli Majlis, the parliament of Azerbaijan.

They met with first deputy speaker of the parliament Ziyafat Asgarov who stressed the dynamic development of Azerbaijan-Algeria relations. Asgarov said that Azerbaijan is interested in deepening these relations. “The two countries maintain good cooperation within international organizations. The visit of the Algerian delegation is a good initiative for widening intergovernmental ties,” the first deputy speaker underlined.

Algeria`s justice minister Tayeb Louh said that relations between the two countries are rapidly developing. He noted that the ministries of justice of Algeria and Azerbaijan signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation to develop the bilateral relations. “We signed the second agreement today. The heads of both countries attach great importance to developing relations, including the interparliamentary ties. I will also propose establishing an Azerbaijan-Algeria inter-parliamentary friendship group, which will promote the development of relations between the two countries` legislative authorities,” Louh said.

Asgarov highlighted the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He said that Azerbaijan has more than 1,200,000 refugees and IDPs. “Armenia still ignores the four resolutions of the UN Security Council. Algeria always supports Azerbaijan`s fair stance within international organizations, and we want the country to step up efforts in this regard,” Asgarov added.
