Ambassador Cutillo: Italy-Azerbaijan relationship reached level of strategic partnership

Baku, May 9, AZERTAC

Italian ambassador to Azerbaijan Giampaolo Cutillo has praised relations between the two countries. In a statement on the 25th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations, the ambassador said Azerbaijan-Italy ties have reached the level of strategic partnership.

He emphasized that a lot has been done in recent years to develop cooperation in various spheres. The ambassador expressed his confidence that the bilateral cooperation will continue to develop in all areas, particularly in oil and gas industry.

Cutillo also shared his impressions of living in Azerbaijan. He said his first encounter with Azerbaijan happened around 10 years ago when he started reading Ali and Nino novel by Gurban Said. “I had very little knowledge about Azerbaijan at that time,” said the Italian ambassador, adding that he “could hardly imagine living in Icharishahar - the ancient center of the city of Baku one day”. “My home city Napoli twinned with Baku. And Italy and Azerbaijan established diplomatic relations back in 1992 when I was a student,” Cutillo added.
