Ashgabat hosts 29th meeting of CIS council on healthcare cooperation

The 29th meeting of the Council on Healthcare Cooperation of the Commonwealth of Independent States has been held in in the Turkmen capital of Ashgabat within the framework of Turkmenistan's chairmanship of the CIS.

The heads and representatives of the ministries and profile agencies working in the healthcare sphere of the CIS member states, as well as the specialists of the WHO European Regional Office, structural agencies of the UN and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent attended the meeting.

The meeting participants discussed the main issues of cooperation in the sphere of health protection, including the development of relevant programmes and projects aimed at the resolution of the problems related to health protection and sustaining of the sanitary and hygienic well-being of the CIS member states’ population.

The two-day event also featured discussions on the activities of the Association of Directors of the Centers and Institutes of Oncology and X-ray Radiology of the CIS and Eurasia (ADIOR of the CIS and EA), as well as on the use of monitoring of tobacco usage as one of the strategic tools for protecting the youth from an addiction to smoking and the harmful effects of tobacco.

The participants will also visit an international exhibition “Health-2019” which will be held as part of the meeting of the Council on Healthcare Cooperation of the CIS.
