Austria hosts “rendezvous” marking centennial of Azerbaijani artist Rashid Behbudov

A concert marking the 100th jubilee of Azerbaijani artist Rashid Behbudov has been held in Vienna, Austria.

The event brought together representatives of diplomatic corps accredited in Vienna, compatriots and the Media.

Addressing the event, Head of Azerbaijani Culture Centre Leyla Gasimova highlighted the life and activity of great the Azerbaijani singer. Leyla Gasimova said Rashid Behbudov was one of the great persons of the country`s cultural history.

Tenor, Soloist of “La Scala” Academy Azar Rzazade performed songs from repertoire of artist Rashid Behbudov as well as pieces by the Azerbaijani and European composers.

Rashid Behbudov was an Azerbaijani singer and actor. In a short time, Behbudov became also prominent Azerbaijani pop singer. His combination of vocal masterpieces ranged from classical performances to lyrical songs. Behbudov's rare vocal talent gave him opportunity to travel beyond the "Iron Curtain" of the Soviet Union, and as a singer he toured with concert performances in several countries of the world, including Iran, Turkey, China, India, Japan, Argentina, and many other countries in Europe, Asia and Latin America. He created the State Song Theater, which still carries his name, and became its soloist and artistic manager.
