Azerbaijan's Agency for State Support to NGOs, UN Women eye prospects for cooperation

Executive Director of Azerbaijan's Agency for State Support to NGOs Aygun Aliyeva has met here with Adriana Quiñones Giraldo, Director a.i. of UN Women Liaison Office Geneva.

Executive Director Aliyeva provided insight into grant competitions held by the Agency in the context of Azerbaijani women’s activity in public life. She also stated that the Agency regularly carries out awareness raising activities on the protection of women's rights, provision of socio-psychological support to women and children suffered from war, prevention of early marriages, protection of gender equality. The Agency also provides financial assistance to initiatives to tackle violence against girls' early dropout and other related issues.

Aygun Aliyeva also touched upon the prospects for cooperation with UN Women in the protection of gender equality, which is the 5th point of the Sustainable Development Goals.

In turn, Adriana Giraldo greeted the guests and express support for the Agency’s initiatives.

She noted that it is important to expand cooperation between UN Women’s institutions with civil society institutions operating in Azerbaijan in these directions.
