Azerbaijan, Inter-parliamentary Union mull bilateral cooperation

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has met with President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Gabriela Cuevas Barron to discuss bilateral cooperation.

Gabriela Cuevas Barron noted that during her visit to Baku she attended the events held as part of the 2019 Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, and that saw the excellent organization of this important world-scale sporting event. She described this kind of landmark events as a wonderful opportunity for Azerbaijan to further increase its influence worldwide.

Pointing to close contacts between Azerbaijan and IPU, Minister Elmar Mammadyarov hailed the active participation of Latin American countries in the organization which unites the representatives of the world's parliaments. FM Mammadyarov said that Azerbaijan will assume presidency of the Non-Aligned Movement this year, and invited Gabriela Cuevas Barron to attend the Summit to be held in Baku on this occasion.

The sides expressed hope that cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Inter-Parliamentary Union will continue to develop, and exchanged views on the ongoing processes in Latin America.
