Azerbaijan, Russia discuss defense cooperation

Azerbaijan and Russia have discussed the bilateral defense cooperation as ministers Zakir Hasanov and Sergei Shoigu met in Baku.
The two noted the key role of the meetings of the Azerbaijani and Russian presidents in expanding relations.
Hasanov said cooperation between the two countries was established on the basis of friendly ties and mutual confidence.
He congratulated the Russian minister as the country “successfully hosted annual International Army Games”.
The Azerbaijani minister also highlighted the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He noted that over a million Azerbaijanis became IDPs and refugees as a result of the Armenian aggression against the country.
Shoigu said the relations between the two countries were based on “strong friendship”. He noted that Russia was an important partner of Azerbaijan.
The Russian minister noted the significance of reciprocal visits and meetings in enhancing bilateral relations, as well as cooperation in military and military-technical spheres.
They also discussed international and regional security problems, military cooperation in the Caspian Sea, as well as the organization of joint military trainings and experience exchange.
