Azerbaijan, US sign bilateral "Open Skies Agreement"
Baku, April 6, AZERTAC
President of Azerbaijan Airlines, AZAL, Jahangir Asgarov and US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Robert Cekuta have signed "Open Skies Agreement" for liberalization of air transport market between the two countries.
The bilateral agreement will allow to simplify the process of organization of air traffic between the United States and Azerbaijan, as well as will contribute to an increase in commercial flights.
The "Open Skies Agreement" envisages elimination of state interference in commercial decisions about the airlines’ routes and pricing, which enables operators to provide more affordable and effective services on passenger and cargo traffic.
Due to the improvement of the regulatory framework of Azerbaijan’s civil aviation, U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ranked Azerbaijan in Category “A” - the highest level in aviation safety. This enabled the launch of direct flights between the two countries.
Regular flights of Azerbaijan Airlines from Baku to New York were launched on September 23, 2014 twice a week by modern "Boeing-787-8" Dreamliner.
