Azerbaijan supports international efforts to prevent natural and man-made disasters, deputy PM
Baku, June 4, AZERTAC
“Azerbaijan remains committed to supporting international efforts to prevent natural and man-made disasters and emergencies as well as to eliminate their consequences,” said Azerbaijan`s Deputy Prime Minister Ali Ahmadov as he met with head of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) Regional Office for Europe Paola Albrito.
Ali Ahmadov highlighted the fact that an increasing number of people are suffering from natural disasters throughout the world, noting that no single country or person is insured against disasters or emergencies. "The risk of emergencies in the geographical location of Azerbaijan is quite high. The government of Azerbaijan is actively collaborating with many international organizations, including the United Nations, International Civil Defense Organization, European Union, NATO, and the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization in reducing the risk of disasters and eliminating their consequences. Azerbaijan also contributed to the adoption of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 and is interested in the implementation of this document,” the Deputy Premier said.
Paolo Albrito said that though it is her first visit to Azerbaijan, she truly feels herself at home in Baku and was deeply impressed by the perfect blend of tradition and modernity in the capital.
Albrito gave detailed information about the Sendai document, and noted that the implementation of this program, which serves 7 global targets, is of key significance to the countries and societies around the globe.
The permanent representative of Azerbaijan to the UN Office at Geneva and other international organizations Vagif Sadigov was also present at the meeting.
