Azerbaijani FM urges OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs to work on peace treaty based on Madrid principles
Baku, February 16, AZERTAC
“Co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group must work on a peace treaty based on the Madrid principles,” Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov has told a press conference following his meeting with Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif.
The FM touched upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict: “While talking about the violation of ceasefire, the co-chairs first of all should note that Armenians must withdraw from the occupied territories. Then, the ceasefire will not be violated. Serious negotiations must start to bring peace to the region.”
“First of all, refugees and IDPs must return to their homelands, especially soldiers must return home,” he added.
In response to a question on Dilgam Asgarov and Shahbaz Guliyev taken captive by Armenians, Mr. Mammadyarov said the issue was raised in meetings with both the co-chairs and representatives of the European Union. “The issue was raised before Armenian President Serzh Sagsyan too. The captives must be returned to Azerbaijan,” the FM said.
