Azerbaijani President meets Iran's Supreme Leader
Tehran, April 9 (AZERTAC). President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has today met Iran's Supreme Leader Sayyid Ali Khamenei.
The Iranian Supreme leader recalled his meetings with Azerbaijani national leader Heydar Aliyev.
Ali Khamenei expressed confidence the Azerbaijani President`s visit to Iran would contribute to expanding relations between the two countries.
He said he believed Azerbaijan-Iran relations would continue developing helped by closeness and common roots between the two nations.
The Iranian Supreme Leader touched upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, saying his country backed settlement of the dispute based on Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity.
Sayyid Ali Khamenei said the Azerbaijani President had big experience, and wished the people of Azerbaijan prosperity.
President Ilham Aliyev praised Azerbaijan-Iran relations, saying common historical, cultural and religious roots built strong foundations for their development.
The Azerbaijani President said the two countries supported each other on the international level.
He stressed the role of the joint commission in expanding the bilateral economic relations.
The Head of State emphasized the importance of broadening Azerbaijan-Iran ties even further.
On the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, President Ilham Aliyev said the dispute was caused by Armenia`s aggression against Azerbaijan.
The President said the conflict had to be solved solely in compliance with the principle of Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity and international law.
The Head of State said Azerbaijan and Iran had political will to develop their relations, expressing hope the bilateral ties will continue enhancing.
