“The monitoring of 411 historical monuments has been conducted In the Karabakh region so far,” said Azerbaijan’s Minister of Culture Anar Karimov at the international scientific conference entitled “The Role of UNESCO Conventions Concerning the Protection of Cultural Properties and Aspects of Improving their Implementation” held in Baku.
Minister Anar Karimov described the declaration of the city of Shusha as the country’s cultural capital as a symbol of restoration of Azerbaijani culture. Touching upon the monitoring mission, Karimov noted that some of the monuments were deliberately destroyed, misappropriated and used for military purposes.
“In doing so, Armenia has committed crimes against Azerbaijan's cultural monuments in Karabakh. Of the monuments, 178 were newly identified. Moreover, the monitoring of 864 cultural institutions was also carried out in the liberated territories,” the minister emphasized.
