Azeri MPs to attend winter session of OSCE PA
Baku, February 18 (AZERTAC). An Azerbaijani Parliamentary delegation led by Vice-speaker of the country`s Milli Majlis Bahar Muradova will leave for Vienna, Austria, to participate in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly`s 12th Winter Meeting to be held on February 21-22 at the Hofburg Congress Centre.
The delegation includes chairman of the Azerbaijani parliamentary committee for agrarian policy Eldar Ibrahimov, chairwoman of the human rights committee Rabiyyat Aslanova, chairman of standing committee on Regional Issues Fattah Heydarov, MPs Agalar Valiyev and Azay Guliyev.
The event will hear reports by Secretary General of the OSCE, Ambassador Lamberto Zannier, OSCE PA Special Representative on Gender Issues, Ms. Hedy Fry, President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Mr. Riccardo Migliori.
The event will also feature the discussions on “How OSCE countries should respond to crises in Syria, the Sahel, and North Africa”.
The Winter Meeting will be comprised of meetings of the Assembly`s Standing Committee of Heads of Delegations, each General Committee, and joint sessions of the three General Committees. Established by a decision of the Standing Committee in 2001, the Winter Meeting is the primary venue for the Assembly`s Members and three General Committees to receive high-level briefings from OSCE officials and discuss draft reports for the upcoming Annual Session. It also typically includes a special debate on a timely topical issue.
Parliamentary interest in the event has steadily increased since it was first held in 2002, making the Winter Meeting the second largest event on the OSCE PA calendar.
