Azerrail Baku delight home crowd with victory over Tauron MKS
Baku, December 16, AZERTAC
Azerrail Baku started their adventure in the 2017 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women on Thursday with a home match against Poland’s Tauron MKS Dabrowa Gornicza and a 3-1 victory (25-21, 15-25, 25-22, 28-26) to delight their passionate fans in attendance.
Azerrail came out with all guns blazing leading the way at both technical time-outs of the opening set, before bringing it to an end at 25-21 in their favour. Aynur Karimova and the experienced libero Valeriya Mammadova (Korotenko) played a leading role in securing this positive result for the team from Azerbaijan’s capital.
The course of the game changed quite dramatically in the second set where Tauron MKS used the many mistakes made by Azerrail to score time and again. The visitors stepped up their efforts in reception and defence and as a result the second set finished in a landslide 25-15 win for Dabrowa Gornicza.
The third and fourth sets, on the other hand, were a much closer affair. Azerrail emerged victorious in set 3 (25-22) to take the lead in the match – as for the fourth set, this was some kind of a rollercoaster with continuous changes in the lead. Tauron MKS claimed a four-point advantage but Azerrail stormed back to lead by three points. After a very close race, Azerrail finished it all off at 28-26 to celebrate a 3-1 victory before they take on Fenerbahce SK Istanbul after the holiday season.
