BAKU MEETING OF AZERBAIJAN-SYRIA INTERGOVERNMENTAL COMMISSION WRAPS UP
Baku, June 30 (AZERTAC). A first meeting of an Azerbaijan-Syria intergovernmental commission on economic, scientific and technical cooperation has today ended in Baku.
Ismat Abbasov, Azerbaijani minister of agriculture and co-chairman of the commission, said the meeting yielded “necessary” results. He noted the co-chairmen signed minutes of the meeting. According to the Azeri minister, the document envisages bilateral cooperation in various fields, including economy, agriculture, industry, energy, renewable energy, communication, information technologies, science, education, health, culture and tourism.
Syrian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and co-chairman of the commission Sufian Allaw said he and his team had “fruitful” meetings with Azerbaijan`s officials, including the President, ministers of industry and energy, economic development and chief of the state oil firm, SOCAR.
Allaw described the Baku forum as productive, expressing hope the commission`s second gathering, slated for next year in Damascus, will repeat this success.
The two ministers said both governments were ready to sign a cooperation agreement concerning several issues, like extradition, elimination of double taxation, tackling emergency situations and protection of environment.
They said Baku and Damascus will host reciprocal exhibitions featuring products from the two countries. The ministers noted Azerbaijan and Syria will also conclude a gas contract for 20 years, and expressed the two countries` intention to launch an air route between their capitals.
