The third day of the 26th edition of World Taekwondo Championships in Baku saw Italian, South Korean and Turkish athletes to seize world championships glory.

Italian Simone Alessio crowned world champion after beating American Nickolas Carl Alan the men's under-80kg.

In the 87kg weight division, it was South Korea's Kang Sang-hyun who came out on top winning a gold medal.

In the women`s event, Turkish Merve Dinçel stuns favourites to take women`s under-49kg title at the World Taekwondo Championships.

The 26th edition of World Taekwondo Championships brought together 949 taekwondo fighters from 145 countries.

The championships will run until June 4.
