Baku hosts 1st International Food Safety Conference

The first international Food Safety Conference entitled “Healthy future, with safe food” has kicked off in Baku.
The event is co-organized by the Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency (AFSA), European Union (EU) and World Bank Group (WBG).
Addressing the opening ceremony, chairman of the Food Safety Agency Goshgar Tahmazli said that the aim of the conference is to bring the most advanced technologies to Azerbaijan and utilize them in the field of food safety and provide the people with healthy and safe food.
Tahmazli noted that promoting the countrywide awareness on food safety and ensuring security in this area are the top priorities for the agency.
Head of Operations Section of the Delegation of the European Union to Azerbaijan Jeroen Willems hailed Azerbaijan’s achievements in the development of agriculture in such a short period of time. He praised the Agency’s activity, saying that since its establishment positive changes have been observed in the country in terms of providing population with healthy and safe food.
The Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency was established by the decree of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on additional measures to improve the food safety system in the country. The Agency is responsible for ensuring the safety of food products at all stages of the food chain, including the production, supply, processing, packaging, storage, transportation, circulation (including import-export operations), veterinary and phytosanitary monitoring.
