Belgium women's hopes hang in the balance

Baku, June 21, AZERTAC

Belgium’s quarter-final qualification in the women's Volleyball still hangs in the balance, despite the team beating Poland 3-2 in a thrilling game on Sunday morning.

The two sides traded opening sets in an absorbing encounter, with Belgium taking the first 25-22, Poland winning the second 25-21.

Poland took the third 25-23 only for Belgium to hit back and take the fourth set 25-22, eventually winning the game with a 16-14 triumph in the deciding set.

The result means the Yellow Tigers sit fourth in Pool A with six points, but if Italy sweep Romania on Sunday afternoon, they will proceed to the next stage at Belgium's expense.

In the morning’s Pool B game, the Netherlands beat Bulgaria with ease to knock them out of the competition.
