CIS COUNTRIES TO COORDINATE PROJECTS OF INTERSTATE PROGRAMS IN FIGHTING WITH CRIME, ILLEGAL DRUGS

As reports AzerTAj with reference to ITAR-TASS, experts from CIS countries are gathering in Minsk later Tuesday to coordinate projects of interstate programs in fighting with crime, illegal drugs, psychotropic substances, and precursors in the period of 2005 through to 2007.
Tatiana Yegorova, the press secretary of the CIS Executive Committee, said the two programs that the experts will consider envision an expansion of the international norms applied in the CIS, the harmonizing of national legislations, and joint search and special operations aimed to curb criminality and the illegal spread of drugs.
CIS law enforcement organizations have voiced grave concerns over the growing supply of drugs from the territory of Afghanistan.
Official data indicates that the actual confiscations of drugs do not exceed 15% to 20% of their total supply to the CIS.
Countries of the commonwealth view drugs trafficking as a major threat to their national security and are considering measures to efficiently rebuff the penetration of drugs and psychotropic substances to their territories.
