COOPERATION BETWEEN AZERBAIJAN AND EUROPEAN UNION DISCUSSED
On the same day, Guliyev met with a special representative of the European Union for South Caucasus Heiki Talvitie, press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports. During the meeting, the parties shared their views on the standpoint and the role of the European Union in the process of resolution of Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
On September 30, the fifth sitting of European Union-Azerbaijan Cooperation Council was held. A wide opinion exchange on cooperation between European Union and Azerbaijan was held at the meeting under chairmanship of deputy secretary of state of Italy for foreign affairs Roberto Antoniani.
Minister Vilayat Guliyev gave a detailed information on the forthcoming Presidential elections, commitments of the country to the Council of Europe, combat against international terrorism, work done in the field of religion and press in the country.
At the same time, he informed and the session discussed the economic reforms carried out in the country, the situation in energy and transport fields, poverty reduction, and cooperation of Azerbaijan with international economic bodies.
The session of European Union-Azerbaijan Cooperation Council was held fruitfully and in conditions of wide views exchange.
Later, leadership of the European Union gave a business lunch in honor of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Armenia and discussed a “Wider Europe” initiative of the European Union as well as stability issues in the region.
At the end of the day, Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia held a news conference.
