Ombudsman of the Azerbaijan Republic Elmira Suleymanova met with the UN Human Rights High Commissioner’s representative Ms. Silta Aiko Georgiadis.

As provided by the Ombudsman Office, Ms. Suleymnaova updated the guest on state of protection of the human rights in the country, on the efforts made in this direction. Ombudsman of Azerbaijan has established close links with the appropriate structures of the United Nations, implements joint projects and a range of actions, she said.

Ms. Silta Aiko Georgiadis said she coordinates issues related to the South Caucasus, disclosed her goal to visit Azerbaijan, and noted that the High Commissioner had prepared a strategic plan on Azerbaijan ad that would like to know the Ombudsman’s suggestions.

E. Suleymanova proposed to conduct a workshop on topic “The Millennium’s targets and human rights establishments”, expressed need for support of the High Commissioner in preparation of the Plan of National Activity on Human Rights.
