Baku, August 16, AZERTAC

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has said the Convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea defines the legal framework of interstate relations and conduct in the sea. “This document is based on the generally accepted norm and principles of international law, especially such key principles as respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of states,” he told AZERTAC.

“Along with the legal regime and the definitions, the convention envisages civil conduct based on clarity, transparency and predictability in the activities of all Caspian littoral states.”

FM Mammadyarov said: “These relations, based on mutual trust and cooperation between the Caspian littoral states, are necessary for them, as well as their partners.”
