DEPUTY PREMIER OF TURKEY ABDULLAH GUL VISITING ENGLAND
On the invitation of the Foreign Minister of England Jack Straw, Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister of Turkey Abdullah Gul is paying an official visit to England. Responding the media representatives, Mr.Abdullah Gul said he considers England as an ally country that frankly supports Turkey’s candidacy for a EU membership. In the course of the visit, the sides will exchange views on wide-range of issues as follows: Turkey-EU relations, Cyprus and Iraq problems and some regional and international problems as well. As was noticed, on the eve of Iraqi war, the Turkish parliament did not permit to station Anglo-American troops on the Turkish territory. This decision appeared to be a rift in the Anglo–Turkish and American–Turkish relations. Political correspondents evaluate the visit of the Turkish Foreign Minister to England and his forthcoming visit to the US, scheduled on July, as a vital step to overcome this rift.
