The European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA) has strongly condemned the raid by Egyptian security forces on Anadolu Agency’s offices in Cairo, Egypt.
“EANA stands with its member, Anadolu Agency and its journalists. We, the EANA Board, are strongly committed to the fundamental values of democracy, and understand free journalism as being at the bedrock of democratic societies. Therefore, moving against these values is an extremely condemnable course of action, and the EANA Board considers that the Egyptian authorities should immediately release the detained journalists and inform the international public on what were the legal grounds of their initial arrest,” EANA said in a statement.
