“ECONOMIC GROWTH –2004”
Opening the Conference, conducted by the sponsorship of “Bank-Standard”, “ANT Inshaat”, “RARKO”, “AzEL” companies, rector of the University, academician Ali Abbasov said: “If to glance at the world economy, one can easily see both economic growth and a number of problems and difficulties. Approximately half of the GDP in the world falls on the share of the United States and Japan, the GDP per capita in the US makes up 25 thousand dollars, while in a number of countries of Asia and Africa, this figure varies within 50 dollars. Such problem in the condition of globalization is connected not only with economic, but also with a number of political problems. The world globalizes, and our Country, ancient Azerbaijan, also plays its role in this process”.
The speaker noted that the difference between the developed countries in all spheres is observed not only in economy, but also in other directions, that is in application of new technologies, development of science. Increase of such difference in the conditions of globalization leads sometimes to frustration of relations between the countries. According to forecasts, similar differences and conflicts in the XXI century may be much more.
Azerbaijan is one of the developed countries not only for its economic situation, but also for culture, rich natural resources, humanitarian values, respect for international norms. The concern caused by the existing problems, also calls on the collective of the Economic University to think over. Coming generation, similar international student forums can play significant role in solution of these problems, in normal organizing the international relations.
Participants of the Conference greeted minister of education Misir Mardanov, minister of economic development Farhad Aliyev, chairman of the MM standing committee on science and education Shahlar Askerov, student of the South California University, US, Mathew Morgan.
Then, at the Conference, academician Ziya Samadzadeh delivered a lecture on the topic “Modern problems of the world economy: view from Azerbaijan”.
He said: “Azerbaijan confidently integrates to the world economy. Which destiny will this economy have? Which tendencies it had yesterday and which ones may appear tomorrow?”
The orator addressed the processes occurred in the world economy during the last century, dwelt on the tendencies. He, in particular, spoke of the gross domestic production, made parallels, stating that the observing in separate countries unequal growth of GDP creates a number of acute problems causing concern. He also noted that one of the key factors with impact on the world economy in the XX century was collapse of the USSR. Mr. Ziya Samadzadeh recommended the students to study the processes happening in the developed countries in CIS space.
The academician noted that among the world countries there are great and serious differences in productivity of labor, life level of population, explained the reasons of it. He said that the international financial structures, the UN seek ways to eliminate them.
The Conference was attended by foreign ambassadors in Baku and representatives of the international organizations operating in the Republic.
On the same day, participants of the International Student Conference visited the Alley of Honors and revered memory of the national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev and laid colors on its tomb.
