EDUARD SHEVARDNADZE APPOINTS NEW CEC CHAIRMAN
Nana Devdiriani was one of three candidates nominated to President of Georgia by the consultative commission OSCE and Council of Europe and until yesterday, had held a position of Public Defender.
Within 6 days, Ad Hoc Commission consisting of head of OSCE office in Georgia, Ambassador Liviu Bota and special representative of CE General Secretary Plamena Nikolova have negotiated with leaders of political parties and NGO representatives on the list of 30 candidates to CEC’s Chairman.
Later, the Commission downsized the list to three persons, which was thereafter submitted to President’s consideration.
This commission, by the way, had been formed due the agreement between OSCE and CE representatives with President Eduard Shevardnadze in accordance with the item 128 (3) of Election Code of Georgia.
