EOC PRESIDENT VISITING AZERBAIJAN
President of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) Patrick Hickey and his spouse, who are in Azerbaijan, visited Sunday the Alley of Honors, where they laid wreaths at the tombs of the national leader of Azerbaijan people Heydar Aliyev and his wife Academician Zarifa Aliyeva.
The guests then paid respect to brave sons of Azerbaijan who died for independence and territorial integrity of the country, at the Alley of Martyrs.
Afterwards, the EOC President visited the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
He was informed that the Foundation’s activity is directed towards propagandizing the Heydar Aliyev heritage, Azerbaijan’s culture and history as well as implementing the nationwide leader-initiated international projects.
After Patrick Hickey and his wife viewed the photo-stands reflecting different periods of Heydar Aliyev’s life and activity, the EOC President signed the Foundation’s Guest Book.
The guests then familiarized themselves with the National Park.
They viewed a musical fountain complex, the Inner City ramparts and the Maiden Tower.
The EOC President Patrick Hickey and his wife also made a stop at a field hockey stadium, where they watched a national championship match.
Mr. Hickey said the stadium meets high standards.
Afterwards, the President of the European Olympic Committees visited the National Taekwondo Federation to view its training halls and swimming pools, and a hotel complex.
Patrick Hickey then proceeded to the Heydar Aliyev Sports Concert Complex to familiarize himself with the construction work.
