EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus meets with Azerbaijani IDPs

The EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia Toivo Klaar has visited an IDP settlement in Masazir, Absheron region.

He was accompanied by deputy chairman of Azerbaijan`s State Committee for Refugees and IDPs Fuad Huseynov and head of Zangilan Region Executive Authority Ramiz Hasanov who highlighted the history of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. They also drew Klaar`s attention to what the Azerbaijani government has been doing to address the problems faced by more than one million refugees and IDPs.

They said that Armenia continues to ignore resolutions of influential international organizations condemning Armenia's occupation policy and demanding immediate withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.

Klaar visited a 540-seat Zangilan secondary school, Zangilan Museum of History and Local Lore and Zangilan district "Shafag" kindergarten in the settlement. He then viewed IDP Salam Guliyev's apartment and spoke with his family members.

The EU Special Representative hailed Azerbaijan's efforts to improve the living conditions of refugees and IDPs.
