European Fencing Confederation votes to remove its President Pozdnyakov from office

Baku, June 1, AZERTAC

The Congress of the European Fencing Confederation (EFC) has made a decision at its extraordinary session to remove EFC President Stanislav Pozdnyakov from the office before his presidential term expired, Pozdnyakov stated on his Telegram channel on Tuesday, according to TASS.

"The Congress of the European Fencing Confederation has voted for the early termination of my powers in the capacity of the EFC president…," Pozdnyakov said. "We take this information for granted. It is very regrettable that the European hysteria led to abolishing everything in regard to Russia, even such noble sport as fencing."

"Within a short period of time a number of my compatriots, who are more merited, compared to me, were also subjected to similar attacks, because they opted against ‘cancelling’ Russia within themselves," Pozdnyakov continued.

"Nevertheless, I am very grateful to our huge European fencing family for such uneasy but very successful six years, when it trusted me twice to take the reign of the organization," he said.

"I wish a strong Siberian health to all athletes and their coaches and remarkable sports results," the Russian sports official added.

Pozdnyakov, who also serves as the president of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), has been at the helm of the European Fencing Confederation since 2016 and was unanimously reelected in 2021 for another presidential term in the confederation.
