Moscow, September 16, AZERTAC

President of FIDE Kirsan Ilyumzhinov has thanked Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and the country's Chess Federation for the “excellent” organization of the 42nd Chess Olympiad. In an interview with AZERTAC, Ilyumzhinov said all delegates to the FIDE General Assembly praised the organization of the Baku Chess Olympiad. "Leading international grandmasters, world champions participated in the tournament, and the games were very interesting,” he said.

According to the FIDE President, Baku is not only a chess capital of the world, but also the sports capital. "I attended the first European Games in Baku, Baku also hosted European Grand Prix Formula 1 and is going to host the Islamic Solidarity Games. International sports officials can use the experience of Azerbaijani leadership and the Ministry of Youth and Sport of Azerbaijan. I think that the Islamic Games will be another good example to follow,” said Ilyumzhinov.
