Foreign Ministry: Azerbaijani Consulate General in Los Angeles sends letter of protest to UFC president
Baku, August 3, AZERTAC
The Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles has sent a letter of protest to the president of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) promotion company Dana White after the "flag" of an internationally unrecognized illegal regime created by Armenia in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan was raised by a fighter of Armenian origin at an UFC competition, said spokesperson of Azerbaijan`s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Leyla Abdullayeva.
“The Consulate General stressed in the letter that this illegal regime created by Armenia in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan was nothing but the result of the military aggression of Armenia. It highlighted the unequivocal position of the United States which supports Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. The letter referred to the UFC rules, under which only the flags of internationally recognized states are allowed to be demonstrated. The Consulate General demanded that the UFC take appropriate disciplinary measures against the fighter of Armenian origin for an attempt to politicize the competition, and to ensure that such cases will not be repeated in the future," Abdullayeva added.
