French website www.bvoltaire.fr: “Armenia against Azerbaijan: What is France doing?”
The French website www.bvoltaire.fr has published an article entitled “Armenia against Azerbaijan: What is France doing?”
The article describes the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict as the most dangerous among the frozen disputes in the world. “Despite the decades passed since the conflict froze, the tension between the two countries have not yet reduced.”
The article said that although France is working hard on the settlement as a co-chair, there has been no result. The website mentions that the Nagorno-Karabakh is an ancient Azerbaijani territory, which is located on the border with Armenia. It adds that hundreds of thousands of Armenians were moved from Turkey and Iran to various regions of Azerbaijan, including Nagorno-Karabakh by the Tsarist Russia in the beginning of the 19th century.
“Following that resettlement the number of Armenians increased in the region and at the end of the last century the Armenians of the Nagorno-Karabakh launched groundless self-determination claims. Following the collapse of the USSR, Armenia launched an undeclared war against Azerbaijan.”
The article notes that thousands of people were killed and more than a million of Azerbaijanis became refugees and IDPs before the ceasefire agreement was achieved in 1994.
The website also hails the meeting of the Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents in Paris late October, which was initiated by French President François Hollande.
