HEAT DAMAGED AGRICULTURE IN FRANCE

The hot and sultry days in France have damaged the country’s agriculture. By specialists’ estimation, at the height of heat the grain growing, animal husbandry, poultry keeping, fruit growing, vegetable growing and wood has suffered most losses in 55 departments. According to calculations, the heat has killed 1,5 million hens and 36 thousand pigs.

Great damage has been caused to forests. Despite firemen’s selflessness approximately 28 thousand hectares of wood has burnt.

The drought has also damaged grain growing. Cornfields have suffered losses at the amount of €265 million, therefore, the production of grains, which is the vital part of the French export, has significantly decreased.

In all, the total loss during today’s heat has amounted to 1 billion euros. In order to liquidate the damage, state has appropriated €500 million to indemnify the victims for losses
