Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Elhadj As Sy has expressed the organization’s intention to continue implementing IDP-related projects in Azerbaijan as he met with Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs Rovshan Rzayev.
Elhadj As Sy hailed humanitarian measures taken in Azerbaijan and the current level of cooperation with the country.
Rzayev highlighted the humanitarian problems caused as a result of Armenia's military aggression against Azerbaijan. He said about more than 1.2 million Azerbaijanis were expelled from their native lands, suffering from severe deprivations.
The chairman also noted that four resolutions of the UN Security Council on the immediate, complete and unconditional withdrawal of the Armenian occupying forces from all the Azerbaijani territories have not yet been implemented.
Rzayev said that Azerbaijan has done a lot to address the problems of refugees and IDPs in the country, adding that this issue has always been the focus of President Ilham Aliyev`s attention. He highlighted the large-scale social programs implemented on the initiative of First Vice-President of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva in this regard.
Following the meeting, Elhadj As Sy visited IDPs accommodated in a dormitory in Yasamal district and a settlement in Masazir, Absheron district.
