INTERNATIONAL FORUM ON DRINKING WATER PROBLEM ENDED IN DUSHANBE

An international forum dealing with the drinking water problems held under the aegis of the United Nations has completed its work in the Tajik capital.
At the forum attended by 600 representatives from 53 countries, Azerbaijan was represented by a delegation of the Committee for Melioration and Water Resources.
First, messages of the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and Secretary General of OSCE Jan Kubis were read out.
The forum focused on regional prospects of drinking water resources’ utilization that is very important for Central Asia, and issues of international co-operation.
Although, 50 percent of the Central Asian water resources are located in Tajikistan, the population suffer from lack of drinking water.
“Drinking water has turned into strategic goal of the international community: to solve the problem is to help people,” said President of Tajikistan Imomali Rahmonov at the closing ceremony of the forum.
