Israel sends water tech and know-how to Bahamas in wake of hurricane Dorian

Baku, October 10, AZERTAC

Israel has shipped a mobile water distribution station to the Bahamas and will help in restoring its water sources in wake of Hurricane Dorian, according to TPS news agency.

Hurricane Dorian, which hit the Bahamas at the beginning of September, is the most intense tropical cyclone on record to strike the Bahamas and is regarded as the worst natural disaster in the country’s history.

The storm left catastrophic damage in its wake, with most structures flattened or swept to sea, and at least 70,000 people left homeless.

The widespread flooding left most of the water reservoirs salted and unusable.

Israel responded to the second stage of recovery assistance targeting the island’s severely damaged infrastructure, providing access to drinking water.

Following contacts between Israel’s Ambassador to Mexico Jonathan Peled, who is accredited to the Bahamas, it was decided to ship from Israel a mobile water distribution station, based on Israel’s Water Authority’s emergency response experience and equipped with Israeli technologies.

MASHAV, Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation, coordinated Israel’s efforts in cooperation with the Prime Minister Office, Israel’s Water Authority, the Embassy of Israel in Mexico, IsrAID and the Local Bahamas authorities, who will be responsible for the operation of the station.

The water station and all the equipment are a gift of the State of Israel to the Bahamas, Israel’s foreign ministry stated.

Following the initial installation, a senior Israeli hydrologist from the Water Authority is scheduled to arrive in the Bahamas to assist in the restoration of water reservoirs.

Israel is world-famous for its advanced water technologies, which provide solutions to the driest and most barren areas on earth. With many years of experience in making its southern desert, the Negev, bloom, Israel has become a leading force in providing water tech to the world.
