Israeli appointed to serve in top position at the UN, shattering glass ceiling
Baku, October 28, AZERTAC
Israeli Natalia Nadal has been appointed the head of Enabling and Outreach Service at the United Nations (UN) and has become one of the most senior Israelis serving in the international organization, according to TPS news agency.
Nadal is a long-time UN employee, having served 15 years as a purchasing representative. In her new position, she will head the UN business intelligence operation. She will oversee the numerous business relations between the UN and the companies that provide it with products and services.
In recent months, Israel has been working behind the scenes to advance Nadal’s chances of being appointed to the prestigious position, as other countries did for their citizens.
Israeli officials explained to UN officials that Nadal has the appropriate skills and experience required for the terms of the tender and that accepting her to the position will fulfill Secretary-General António Guterres’s policy on promoting women in the organization.
Today, 103 Israelis work in the UN, 29 of which are based in New York City, at the UN’s US headquarters.
“Israel is very proud of Natalia’s success,” Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon said.
“We will continue our commitment to widen the circle of Israelis employed at the UN and to shatter any glass ceiling that would prevent their promotion within the organization,” he added.
