KOFI ANNAN RECOMMENDS TO PROLONG UN MISSION
The journalists were informed in the Tbilisi UN office that Secretary General of the UN Organization, Kofi Annan sent his report on Georgia to the UN Security Council and recommended to prolong the terms of UN mission in Georgia for another six months, i.e. until January 31 2004.
The report of the Secretary General reads, “It is still impossible to achieve a considerable progress in the issues of further status of Abkhazia within the framework of the Georgian state and provide security”. The report gives information on the actions taken by the UN for recent months for settlement of Georgian-Abkhazian conflict, activities of Georgian monitors, on their cooperation with the CIS collective peacemaking forces.
Head of the Committee for defense and security of the Georgian Parliament, Irakli Batiashvili stated at the meeting with journalists that he supports the idea of prolongation the terms of the UN mission in Georgia.
