With his radical statements, Mr. Saakashvili noted that he sees no alternatives to Eduard Shevardnadze’s resigning, “If President wants revolution we can do it”. Opposition leaders threatened that they would not recognize “truth” of defeat, in their opinion, of bloc “For New Georgia” and lead people into the streets. D. Patiashvili urged people to civil disobedience. Late in the evening most of people dismissed.
President of Georgia Eduard Shevardnadze made a statement in which he appealed to defend the stability. He recognized such actions of opposition as illegal at the time CEC is still calculating the votes and authorities would prevent instability and culprits will be deservedly punished.
Head of Ajar Autonomous Republic Aslan Abashidze called on to exercise restraint and patience and called as irresponsible the statements of those considering themselves as winners until promulgation of results. He noted that if fascists come to power as it was in 30s last century the repressions would be repeated. He called on vigorous forces to go out to the streets in order to not the radical opposition be there.
