MILLI MAJLIS RATIFIES AGREEMENT BETWEEN DEFENCE MINISTRIES OF AZERBAIJAN AND LATVIA
Ziyafan Askarov, the parliament vice-speaker and chairman of the Standing Commission for Defence and Security said the Agreement was signed in the Riga city on August 15, 2005. According to the document the both sides will realize exchange of experiences in connection with organizing by NATO events and within the NATO programme ‘Partnership for Peace”. There are planning and establishing of the military budget, forming of the multinational military troops and expanding its activity, the democratic control under the Armed Forces, the military policy and strategy, also participating in the international peacekeeping and humanitarian operations. The Agreement will remain in force for 5 years.
The parliamentarians have noted the Agreement is in the national interest of the Azerbaijani State.
