Manuel Gonzalez Sanz: Azerbaijan is an ally for Costa Rica in the region

“Azerbaijan is an ally for Costa Rica in the region,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs and Religion of Costa Rica Manuel Gonzalez Sanz at a joint press conference with Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov.

The Costa Rican Minister hailed ongoing development process in Azerbaijan, and noted “Azerbaijan`s achievements should be an example for other countries.”

He said that Costa Rica was interested in humanitarian, economic and tourism cooperation with Azerbaijan. Manuel Gonzalez Sanz underlined that exchange of students would open new opportunities for cooperation.

He said that Costa Rica supported peacekeeping steps taken within the UN and other international organizations. The Costa Rican Minister stressed the importance of the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the international law. The Minister noted his country has rejected from the army, and added Costa Rica trusted to the supremacy of international law in the settlement of international issues.

Minister Elmar Mammadyarov noted that Azerbaijan attached huge importance to relations with South and Central American countries. Mr. Mammadyarov said he discussed with Costa Rican Minister the ways of development of relations between the two countries, and opportunities for cooperation with the Latin American Countries within the international organizations.

The Azerbaijani Minister noted that he informed Manuel Gonzalez Sanz on the current situation of negotiations towards the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and about the refugees and IDPs.

Mr. Mammadyarov also stressed the need for strengthening political dialogue between the ministries of foreign affairs of the two countries according to the mechanism of political consultations.

According to the Azerbaijani Minister, the meeting was also focused on the joint investment making.
