Memorandum of partnership between British Embassy with Pasha Bank “guaranteeing additional place makes a really big difference”

Second Secretary, Vice Consul of the British Embassy in Baku James Holder has highlighted memorandum of partnership signed between the British Embassy with the Pasha Bank saying “this additional place makes a really big difference”.
In an interview with AZERTAC, Mr Holder commented on importance of signing ceremony: “This partnership has agreed to sponsor an additional place for a Chevening Scholar for an academic year of 2018-2019. So, one more Azerbaijani student who can travel to UK and study in one of our top Universities. It`s first time that we managed to have a local partner for a Scholarship program.”
The Second Secretary expressed hope that many other partnership agreements will be signed in Azerbaijan.
Mr Holder also provided insight into Chevening scholarship, adding “Its fantastic opportunity for people across the world who come to the UK and experience the British culture.” “We offer a number of places to Azerbaijani students every year. We had 242 applicants from Azerbaijan for this year a largest ever and an increase of 30 per cent since year of 2015. 55 per cent of applicants are female.”
He described the Scholarship “as a Fantastic opportunity for future leaders” noting “people with ambition will reach heights in every fields they work for instance in business, science and etc.” “So, they will not only experience a very high level of teaching, but they should also enjoy the cultural opportunities.”
The Vice Consul of the British Embassy in Baku also highlighted his recommendations to the Azerbaijani students: “We looking for to know from Chevening applicants a real knowledge of what they want to get from a year in UK. They would clarify us what they put for as a future career. But also to know a little bit about UK, for instance why they exactly want to go to UK.”
On significance of the Scholarship for the candidates in terms of their future background Mr. Holder said: “I am very pleased to say we have had 185 Azerbaijani scholars since 1994 that studied under the Chevening banner. Some of them guaranteed the very strong positions in Azerbaijan.”
