Minister of Agriculture resigns ahead of impeachment by Majlis

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani accepted the resignation of Agriculture Minister Mahmoud Hojjati, according to Iran Press. Hojjati was likely to be impeached by the parliament (Majlis), but he chose to step down just ahead of his impeachment.

According to the president's official website, Abbas Keshavarz was appointed as caretaker of the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad.

The resignation comes as the Iranian Parliament was slated to impeach the minister on Tuesday.

Asadollah Abbasi the spokesman for the Iranian Parliament’s presiding board, said the impeachment session has now been cancelled since the minister has chosen to resign.
