NEW APPOINTMENTS IN ARMED FORCES OF TURKEY
The Supreme Military Council passed a number of important resolutions: 54 generals and admirals retired on a pension; 32 generals and admirals of the Armed Forces were given higher ranks; 46 lieutenant colonels were given ranks of generals and admirals.
Navy Commander, Army Admiral Bulent Alpgay and Air Forces Commander, Army General Jumhur Asparuk retired on a pension. These positions were given to Army Admiral Ozden Ornek and Army General Ibrahim Firtina accordingly.
The second chief of the General Stuff of the Armed Forces of Turkey, Army General Yashar Boyukkanit was appointed as Commander of the First Army, Infantry Stuff chief, Army General Ilker Basbug - as second chief of the General Stuff, Commander of the fifth Army, General-colonel Sukru Sarisig - as Secretary General of the National Security Council and Army General Faruk Jomerd - as Commander of military academies.
President Ahmet Nedjet Sezer approved the resolutions of the Supreme Military Council. The resolutions come into effect on August 30.
