On November 7-8, the 17th General Assembly of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) will officially begin in the capital of the Republic of Korea, Seoul.
An official reception for the heads and representatives of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) member agencies has been hosted with the participation of Mayor of Seoul city Park Won-soon on this occasion.
Addressing the event, president of the Yonhap Cho Sung-boo highlighted the news agency`s preparations for the General Assembly. Noting that the member agencies are closely involved in the OANA activities, Cho Sung-boo emphasized that AZERTAC's chairmanship of OANA had been marked by a number of improvements. Saying that the role of news agencies has increased even faster with the rapid growth of social networks and online media, Mayor Park Won-soon hailed the OANA's commitment to preserving the valuable traditions that make up the core principles of journalism. He noted that the advanced technologies had positively influenced the development of journalism, adding that it had created both challenges and opened up new opportunities for media.
Speaking on the agenda of the OANA General Assembly, OANA President, AZERTAC Chairman of Board Aslan Aslanov said that the contemporary media development trends and organizational issues would be discussed at the meetings. “During the two-day General Assembly we will discuss the prospects for cooperation among member agencies, and ways to improve the work of organization, as well as present the OANA Excellence Award to the winners. I am confident that this General Assembly will be remarkable for a number of key decisions and approaches,” Aslan Aslanov mentioned.
The 17th OANA General Assembly will be organized by Yonhap news agency on November 7-8. The General Assembly will elect a new chairman and members of the Executive Board. AZERTAC has been chairing the organization, which brings together 44 news agencies from 35 countries, since 2016. The 16th OANA General Assembly was held in Baku on November 18, 2016.
