PACE WINTER SESSION COMMENCED
The session started on 25 January. Agenda of the session included issues of the potential development of the symbolic capital of Europe, Strasbourg, fulfillment of the obligations Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia took before the Council of Europe, presidential elections in Georgia, parliament elections if Serbia, Constitutional crisis in Ukraine, improvement of perspectives of the developing countries, election of the chairman of the Assembly, economic aspects of expansion of the European Union and others.
Mr. Peter Schieder was re-elected as the Chairman of the Assembly. AS President Ilham Aliyev left the deputy chairman of pace and Bureau member, in view of the procedural rules, head of the Azerbaijan delegation at PACE Samad Seyidov was elected to this position.
Hot debates took place in connection with Ukraine and Cyprus.
Deputy from Azerbaijan Rafael Huseynov made a motion in connection with discussions of the issue of symbolic capital of Europe Strasbourg to set a European Museum of 45 Council of Europe member-states and a center to promote political journalism. The deputy also raised the question of nuclear debris buried in the occupied Azerbaijani territories and called on the parliamentarians to promote liberation of Azerbaijan’s occupied lands.
