PACE autumn session kicks off in Strasbourg
Opening the session, PACE President Anne Brasseur highlighted the Assembly conference with participation of the heads of parliaments and senators of 60 countries held in Oslo, capital of Norway, informed about the state of PACE priorities in different countries, as democracy, human rights and supremacy of law.
Recalling the continuing financial crisis in Europe, the PACE President stressed the necessity of making more efforts for dialogue and cooperation in the human rights sphere.
President Anne Brasseur regretfully spoke of the rise of neo-fascism, naming this “a serious threat”.
After the Bureau and standing committees made reports, the participants approved the agenda apparently to include the situation in Ukraine, the presidential elections in Turkey, prospects of Europe-Asia maritime cooperation, woman rights, quality of education, etc.
The autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe is in progress.
